Job Overview
NRAP International Limited is seeking an experienced and results-driven Head of Operations to oversee and coordinate daily operations across retail and wholesale distribution channels in Tanzania. This role is critical in ensuring efficient supply chain management, inventory control, logistics coordination, staff supervision, and compliance with regulatory standards.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, hands-on experience in operations management, and the ability to optimize processes for cost efficiency and timely delivery.
Key Responsibilities
As the Head of Operations, you will be responsible for:
- Overseeing and coordinating daily operational activities across the company
- Managing procurement of pet and dog products including food, accessories, grooming items, and medicines (where applicable)
- Coordinating with local and international suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries
- Supervising warehousing operations, inventory control, and stock rotation to minimize expiries and losses
- Ensuring proper handling and storage of products in line with quality and safety standards
- Planning and managing product distribution to pet shops, veterinary clinics, supermarkets, and distributors
- Coordinating transportation and delivery schedules across major cities and regions in Tanzania
- Monitoring delivery costs and optimizing logistics efficiency
- Supervising warehouse staff, drivers, shop attendants, and operations officers
- Preparing duty rosters, assigning tasks, and monitoring staff performance
- Training staff on product handling, customer service, and operational procedures
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Maintaining accurate operational records including stock levels, deliveries, returns, and damages
- Collaborating with the sales team to ensure stock availability for promotions and campaigns
- Ensuring compliance with Tanzanian regulations related to imports, product safety, and animal care
- Enforcing workplace health, safety, and hygiene standards
- Preparing weekly and monthly operational reports
- Tracking operational KPIs such as stock turnover, delivery time, and losses
Qualifications & Experience
To be successful in this role, candidates should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field
- A minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in operations management (FMCG, retail, or distribution preferred)
- Proven experience handling inventory management and logistics operations in Tanzania
- Strong organizational, analytical, and leadership skills
