The Embassy of Denmark in Accra is seeking a highly motivated and analytical Political and Macroeconomic Officer to support Denmark’s bilateral and regional engagement in Ghana and West Africa. This role has a strong focus on green transition, energy policy, climate action, development cooperation, and business promotion.
You will work in a fast-paced diplomatic environment, contributing to political and economic analysis, programme management, stakeholder engagement, and high-level delegations across Ghana and the Embassy’s side-accredited countries: Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Togo.
Key Responsibilities
Political & Economic Analysis
- Conduct in-depth political and macroeconomic analysis to support Embassy leadership, development cooperation, and trade promotion
- Prepare high-quality background briefs and analytical reports related to Ghana and the wider West African region
Energy, Climate & Green Transition
- Serve as the Embassy’s lead officer on energy sector development and climate action
- Engage directly with Ghana’s Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and other sustainability-focused institutions
- Act as the Embassy’s focal point for Denmark’s green institutions, including the Danish Energy Agency
Project & Programme Management
- Manage and oversee projects under initiatives such as the Accelerated Partnership for Renewables in Africa (APRA) and renewable energy programmes in Sierra Leone
- Conduct programme monitoring, field visits, performance reviews, and compliance assessments
- Ensure adherence to Danish development cooperation guidelines, contracts, and results frameworks
Trade, Business & Stakeholder Engagement
- Advise Danish companies and financial institutions on market opportunities, trade barriers, and regulatory frameworks
- Support Global Public Affairs activities and dialogue with key Ghanaian ministries and public institutions
- Provide analytical input for business promotion and public-sector engagement
Delegations & Diplomacy
- Plan and coordinate high-level political, sectoral, and business delegations
- Support Denmark’s bilateral and regional diplomatic engagements in West Africa
Required Qualifications
- University degree in Political Science, Economics, International Relations, Development Studies, or a related field
- Strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills
- Proven experience and network in public–private partnerships, diplomacy, or international cooperation
- Excellent written and spoken English
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience in development cooperation and programme management
- Familiarity with trade promotion, business advisory services, or Global Public Affairs
- Knowledge of energy policy, climate action, or sustainability initiatives
