The Center for Economic and Social Rights (CESR) is recruiting a skilled and mission-driven Communications Officer to strengthen its global advocacy and narrative-shifting work.
This role is ideal for a strategic communicator who is passionate about economic justice and human rights, and who excels at translating complex policy issues into compelling stories that inspire action. The Communications Officer will play a key role in shaping CESR’s public voice, increasing visibility, and supporting organizational growth.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will lead communications strategy, manage daily communications activities, and collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners.

Job Details
- Job Title: Communications Officer
- Contract Type: Part-time (Initial one-year contract, renewable)

- Salary Range: USD 37,000 – 60,000 (Pro-rated based on hours, experience, and location)
Key Responsibilities
Communications Strategy & Leadership
- Design, lead, and continuously refine CESR’s communications strategy
- Define success indicators and evaluate communications impact
- Strengthen internal understanding of target audiences, narratives, and messaging priorities
- Guide organizational storytelling in line with CESR’s strategic objectives
Content Creation & Storytelling
- Develop and oversee high-quality content including reports, policy briefs, blogs, press releases, and multimedia materials
- Ensure all outputs are clear, inclusive, and aligned with CESR’s brand and visual standards
- Support publication design and layout using tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
Digital & Media Engagement
- Manage and enhance CESR’s website content, accessibility, and user experience
- Create engaging content for social media platforms including LinkedIn, X, Bluesky, and others
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets
Collaboration & Organizational Support
- Work closely with program teams to embed communications into project planning and delivery
- Coordinate external vendors such as designers, developers, and translators
- Contribute to fundraising and resource-mobilization materials
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- At least 5 years of experience in strategic communications within human rights, advocacy, or social justice organizations
- Proven ability to simplify and communicate complex economic or policy issues
- Strong digital communications skills and familiarity with online platforms and tools
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling abilities
- Highly organized, adaptable, and able to collaborate across diverse teams and cultures
