Position: Operator-cum-Supervisor – Grid Casting
Department: Production

Reporting To: Production Manager / Shift In-Charge
Job Purpose
To operate and supervise grid casting operations ensuring consistent quality, high productivity, safety compliance, and process control in lead acid battery manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate grid casting machines as per approved SOPs.
- Ensure correct alloy composition, melting temperature, and casting parameters.
- Monitor grid weight, thickness, and dimensional accuracy.
- Achieve daily production targets with minimal rejection.
Quality Control
- Inspect grids for defects such as short filling, cracks, warpage, and porosity.
- Maintain rejection within defined limits.
- Ensure traceability and proper identification of grids.
- Coordinate with Quality team for inspections and corrective actions.
Safety & Environment
- Ensure strict compliance with PPE and safety norms while handling molten lead.
- Monitor housekeeping and 5S in the grid casting area.
- Report near-miss incidents and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Ensure environmental compliance related to lead handling.
Machine & Process Control
- Monitor machine performance and report abnormalities.
- Coordinate with maintenance for breakdowns and preventive maintenance.
- Ensure proper die condition, lubrication, and cleaning.
- Minimize downtime and improve machine utilization.
Education & Experience
- 10/ ITI/ Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical
- 7-10 years of experience in grid casting within a lead acid battery plant.
- Willingness to relocate and work in Nigeria
