Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced National Sales Manager – Traditional Trade to drive nationwide sales growth across Nigeria’s traditional trade channels, including open markets, distributors, wholesalers, kiosks, and neighborhood retail outlets.
This senior leadership role is critical to delivering volume, value, and distribution targets within a highly competitive FMCG environment. The successful candidate will lead regional sales teams, strengthen distributor partnerships, optimize route-to-market strategies, and ensure excellent in-market execution across all regions.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Strategy & Execution
- Develop and execute a national sales strategy for the Traditional Trade channel aligned with overall business objectives.
- Drive primary and secondary sales performance across all regions.
- Translate annual business plans into actionable regional and territory sales plans.
- Ensure effective route-to-market execution, outlet coverage, and numeric distribution growth.
Distributor & Channel Management
- Lead, optimize, and expand distributor and wholesaler networks nationwide.
- Monitor distributor stock levels, credit exposure, and service efficiency.
- Strengthen relationships with key trade partners to improve availability and execution.
Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Lead, coach, and manage Regional Sales Managers and field sales teams.
- Set clear sales KPIs, conduct performance reviews, and drive a high-performance sales culture.
- Build strong succession pipelines and enhance sales capability across regions.
Market Execution & Trade Marketing
- Ensure effective execution of trade promotions, pricing strategies, and visibility initiatives.
- Drive SKU availability, assortment, and penetration across traditional trade outlets.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and consumer behavior to identify growth opportunities.
Reporting & Analytics
- Track and analyze sales performance, market coverage, and productivity metrics.
- Prepare and present weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales reports to senior management.
- Use data-driven insights to improve forecasting, planning, and execution effectiveness.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field (MBA is an advantage).
- 10–15 years of FMCG sales experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing traditional trade at a national or regional level.
- Strong understanding of Nigeria’s traditional trade landscape and distributor management.
- Proven track record of delivering sales growth, market expansion, and team leadership success.
