    Job Overview

    We are seeking a highly experienced Director, Public Sector Group (PSG) to provide strategic leadership and oversight of government and public institution banking relationships. This role sits within Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) and is responsible for shaping strategy, originating and executing public sector transactions, managing risk, and deepening long-term partnerships with government entities across Ghana.

    The ideal candidate is a seasoned banking leader with deep public sector expertise, strong commercial acumen, and a proven ability to manage complex stakeholder environments.


    Key Responsibilities

    Strategy & Leadership

    • Partner with Executive Management to develop and execute the Bank’s vision and strategic plan for the Public Sector Group.
    • Define, implement, and continuously review business objectives and growth strategy for the PSG portfolio.
    • Act as a trusted advisor to Executive Management and CIB teams on all matters related to government and public sector banking.
    • Represent the Bank at industry forums, conferences, and stakeholder engagements to strengthen brand visibility and market positioning.

    Client Relationship Management

    • Develop, manage, and deepen strategic relationships with government ministries, agencies, departments, and public institutions.
    • Deliver a full suite of customized banking products and solutions tailored to public sector needs.
    • Drive cross-selling opportunities across the Bank’s product portfolio.
    • Coordinate engagements between clients and internal product teams to ensure exceptional service delivery.

    Business Development & Market Intelligence

    • Identify, assess, and communicate emerging internal and external issues that may impact public sector business.
    • Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and competitor activity within Ghana’s public sector.
    • Translate market intelligence into new business opportunities and innovative deal structures.

    Risk & Compliance

    • Ensure full compliance with all applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, and internal policies governing public sector banking.
    • Oversee and manage credit risk within the Public Sector Group portfolio, maintaining high asset quality.
    • Structure and execute transactions from origination to closure, ensuring value creation and best-practice standards.

    People & Team Management

    • Build and lead a high-performing PSG team, fostering open communication and collaboration.
    • Identify skills gaps and drive training and capability development initiatives.
    • Oversee implementation of human resource policies, procedures, and performance standards.
    • Promote team cohesion through cross-functional collaboration and staff engagement initiatives.

    Knowledge, Skills & Experience

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree from a reputable university (Post-graduate qualification is an added advantage).
    • Minimum 15 years of progressive banking experience, including at least 5 years managing government or public sector business.
    • Proven track record in sales leadership, relationship management, and portfolio growth.

    Technical & Professional Expertise

    • Deep understanding of banking products, financial services mechanisms, and public sector value chains.
    • Strong capability in deal structuring, credit risk management, and transaction execution.
    • Expert knowledge of global banking products and ability to localize solutions for the Ghanaian market.
    • Solid experience in cash management services.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of banking operations, SWIFT systems, and related processes.
    • Strong understanding of local market dynamics, customers, and competitors.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information at executive level.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and communicate public sector research and management data.
    • Exceptional negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
    • Proven leadership, people management, and organizational capability.
    • Ability to operate effectively across all levels of the organization, internally and externally.
